Imagine if a game, which was made two years ago and almost deleted by its creators, suddenly became one of the best games of the year. Among Us is a murder mystery game made by American game company InnerSloth. The game suddenly became popular through gamers playing on Twitch and YouTube.

“I really like the game because it is unlike any game I’ve ever played before,” Leonardo Gregori-del Rosario ’27 said. “You have different tasks to do, it levels up your detective skills, and when you’re the imposter, you have to use tactics to win the game.”

The storyline of the game is about a crew on a spaceship with impostors on board. The crewmates finish different tasks around the spaceship to go back to Earth and escape from the impostor. The impostor’s tasks are to eliminate the crewmates and, at the same time, not arouse suspicion about being an impostor. The point of the game is for crewmates to find out who the impostor is and kick suspects off the ship.

This game has greatly become popular among Browning students. Not only has it taught them new skills, but it had also brought friends together and built new friendships.

“I most definitely like the game because you can learn new things about your friends that you never knew,” Neil Dewan ‘24 said. “You also learn how to grow your skills and smart gameplay.”

This game is very good at bringing a new activity to your life. The game is focused very much on the crewmates having to become detectives and trying to find out who the imposter is. There are many things you have to take into account. For example, you can look at cameras, you have to know where the other crewmates are at all times, and most importantly, try to avoid people who look like they are trying to kill others.

Initially, the game suddenly rose in popularity when a Twitch administrator recommended the game to a streamer named SodaPop; he had 2 million followers at the time. Other popular streamers started showing this game to the public. However, most students in the class learned about this game through friends, social media, and some had even played it before its rise to popularity.

“I enjoy the thinking that goes into it. It really makes me think about everything that someone does, and pay attention.” Marc Viscogliosi ‘27 said.

This very simple mystery game somehow became one of the most popular games of 2020. This amount of growth on a game is magnificent, and it is truly incredible to find that a chain of people showing it to the public on social media can somehow create a shockwave of players. This shows that influencers on social media can clearly make a difference to the fame of a game.
