Browning’s winter athletic season has just begun, as the varsity basketball team looks to find themselves in the NYCAL playoffs for another year.

Last year, Browning suffered a 58-63 loss to Loyola in the NYCAL Quarterfinals. With a new lineup under head coach Daniel Peña, the team stresses the importance of defense and one hundred percent effort in every play.

“The first week of my senior basketball season was nothing short of what I expected. Year after year, basketball challenges my fitness and mental strength when I step on the court. Browning’s team spirit and comradery keep me coming back each year more excited than the prior,” said Evan L. ‘25.

With 15 players on the roster following tryouts, Browning has lots of versatility. Having an abundance of unique lineups and players from all four grade levels, the varsity basketball team looks to fill the void from the previous year’s seniors.

“As a senior, my goal is to lead this team to greatness, pushing each of us to exceed our limits and make this season one to remember,” said Colin M. ‘25.

Browning will take each game one at a time, taking steps towards their goal of a run in the playoffs beginning on February 7th.

The Panther’s first game is a scrimmage against Birth Wathen Lenox on Monday, November 11th. Following this is a game against Staten Island Academy and the annual Little Red & Elizabeth tournament. Browning looks to prepare themselves for their first league game against the newest member of NYCAL, Grace Church.

Led by eight seniors, the team will also look to returning Sophomores Jesse S. ‘27 and Ryan K. ‘27 to make an impact. Both gave valuable minutes for the Panthers in their freshman seasons.

The Panthers look to defend Equinox one last year before transitioning to the new building.
