Reflection on Soccer Photography: Images from the Season

The Varsity Soccer Team huddling up in a NYCAL game against the Trevor Day School

Artist Statement from Matthew C. ‘25:

When every second in a sports match is filled with action, a photographer must always be ready to capture a critical moment, and they had better have the space on their SD card to make sure nothing is lost.

While I would normally be on the field this season, I was tasked instead with following and taking pictures of the varsity soccer team. I took over 9000 photos and did my best to capture every moment. While some on the team might think that the season could have gone better, my photographs tell a different story. Through images of countless huddles, passes, and goals that could not have been made without true teamwork, it is clear that this year’s team exemplifies unity. Even though I was not even on the field, I felt that during every practice and game. That, itself, is more of a win than any championship.
