New Goals For Varsity Squash With Strong Start
Written by Nicholas A-S. ‘28
The Varsity Squash team finished the 2024 side of the season with a 6-2 overall record and a 4-1 record in the ACIS League. Despite a narrow loss against Avenues where, due to an injury, the full roster was not playing, Junior Captain Ali H. ‘26 continues to believe the team has what it takes to win the league: “This season our goal is to win the league. Last year we finished as runners up, but I have tons of confidence that this team has both the talent and work ethic to go all the way.”
After a 13-4 regular season record last season, the team received a bid in the state tournament, featuring the eight best teams in the NY state before participating in the High School Nationals in Philadelphia PA.
This year, the team is emphasizing hard work and dedication regardless of the caliber of opponent, with Junior Julian K. ‘26 stating: “We will settle for nothing less than a full win every game” This mentality has been evident in the first games the team has played this season, with the team recording four 7-0 sweeps thus far, again BWL, York, Packer and Portledge respectively.
Looking ahead, the team will have two critical matchups against Trinity and Dalton on the 22nd and 27th respectively, which will be critical to the teams hopes of receiving a high seeding in this years state tournament, after receiving the #7 seed last season. From there, the team is likely to face Avenues in the league final, with the season finishing off with nationals from Feb 21-Feb 23.
Come out and support the team!
