Varsity Baseball Off to a “Promising” Start
The varsity baseball team has gotten off to a “promising” start this season, according to shortstop and pitcher Adam B. ‘25, with an overall record of 7-2 and 4-2 in league play.
“Coming into the season, expectations were high, especially with the addition of Wyatt, a superstar eighth grader,” Catcher Alexander T. ‘25 said. “The bats have been hot, and with the combined arms of Wyatt and Adam on the bump, we’ve been efficient on the mound.”
The team is coming off a series sweep over rival Trevor Day, with an 8-7 win on Monday and a 7-3 win on Tuesday. Both victories came with comebacks in the last inning with rally hats on, including a walkoff win on Monday.
“With Ethan on second base, I was just trying to move him over to third,” Second baseman Quinny B. ‘25, who drove in the winning run, said. “When I saw the ball get past the shortstop, it was a moment of pure joy and it was exciting to come through for the team.”
The team is led by Athletic Director Andrew West, Assistant Athletic Director Michael Cohn, and Stafford Travers. Coach Cohn acts as the first base coach, with Coach West at third base and Coach Travers primarily working with pitchers.
The team has a series with playoff implications against Loyola on Friday the 28th and Monday the 1st. The squad is currently in third place in NYCAL, trailing Columbia and Calhoun.
As the regular season winds down, team captain Nate L. ‘23 said: “These are must-win games."
