On April 24, the ninth grade class will be going to the Island School to collect data on the projects surrounding Marine Ecology that they developed in Biology class.

Part of the camaraderie built between students in the upper school takes place in the world of fantasy football, where pressure, strategy, and most importantly fun is shared among participants.

As part of the broader peer leadership program, the ninth graders, accompanied by the senior peer leaders, went on a retreat to strengthen friendships and understand their role at Browning in a more authentic way.

During the second semester of my junior year, I was fortunate to spend my spring semester abroad at The Island School in Eleuthera, Bahamas, expanding on my studies in marine ecology and sustainability.⁠

The Grytte staff presents its sixth annual dedication to Dean of Faculty and English Department Chair Michael Ingrisani. 

Eighth Graders just completed an informative, reforming unit that focused on this essential question: How might a deep understanding of the many stories of Africa inform and impact our own stories?

During his 25 years at Browning, Dr. Protheroe has impacted the lives of a generation of Browning students and inspired a love of history in countless young minds.

The Asian Affinity group recently hosted an open meeting for the School’s community with Congresswoman Grace Meng of New York about the recent spike of violence against Asian Americans in the United States. 

As a result of the new concerns over the community’s mental wellbeing, students, parents, and teachers meet with Jessi Soles, the High School Wellness Counselor, or Amy Anselmo, the Director of Wellness and the Lower and Middle School Wellness Counselor.

Many members of the faculty have received their doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. They found the process to be relatively painless and are fortunate to have received the vaccine.

The Middle School attended an eye-opening, three-day, online seminar led by Ross Wehner of the World Leadership Program. There, students learned about purpose, life mapping, personalization, and more.

Taking first place in this debate season, the Browning Debate Team has demonstrated outstanding results throughout multiple categories due to the efforts of the team members. The strong results are a result of the hard work that all of the members have put in.

While representing countries from around the world at the ILMUNC conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, Henry S. ‘22, Nathaniel M. ‘22, and Luca G. ’22 were given recognition as Best and Outstanding delegates in their respective committees. 

It is no secret that many Browning students haven’t spent their time during the pandemic as they desired, but nonetheless, some students found innovative ways to entertain themselves. 

For Latino Heritage month, seniors Fernando C. ‘21, Edgar S. ‘21, and Christian S. ‘21 created a video in Corona Plaza to demonstrate the diverse cultures in New York City. Check out their video here and their thoughts on the importance of filming it.

This past fall, the Upper School transitioned to a hybrid schooling model; some feel that adjustments made since the spring like transitioning to Canvas have allowed for learning to be easier, but many are still adjusting to online learning.

Whether from the building or a computer screen, the Browning administration has successfully dealt with the challenge of running a school during a global pandemic, but there are many obstacles for the remainder of the school year. As of now, the administration’s intention is to remain in hybrid learning.

In a normal year, it is common to introduce the new Browning faculty at a school assembly. Due to COVID-19, this could not take place. The Grytte asked our new members the following two questions so that the community can get to know them better:
